Kick Off our New Year

August 23 Saturday 9:30 AM

Kick off our new year with Gusto!!! The New Board, Committee Chairmen, and our 2008/2009 programs will be introduced. We will discuss our new goals and the Pink Palace projects.

   

Convergence Review

September 20* (not 4th Saturday)
Saturday 9:30 AM
Linda Weghorst, Angela Schneider, Victoria Port and Eva Cassel will talk about their experiences at the Convergence in Tampa. We will show you the Fashion Show and Art Shows from the Convergence…make you feel as if you were there.
Linda will also talk about the John C. Campbell Folk School Class in July 2008.
We will also collect all your items for the Pink Palace Fair.

Jacquard Mill Tour

Jennifer Sargent will give a presentation about the Jacquard Workshop she attended at the Jacquard Center and the Oriole Mill in Henderson, NC. Jennifer will show pictures of the weaving process and bring some of her work that was made there.

 

Kumihimo

November 22 Saturday 9:30 AM
Victoria Port and Angela Schneider will have a hands-on kumihimo class. It is easier than you think and will give beautiful results.
   

Holiday Luncheon and Silent Auction

December 13 Saturday 11:00 AM
Bring your favorite dish to share, as well as a weaving related item for the silent auction. Proceeds benefit the Joyce Quigley Award at the Memphis College of Art. Location will be determined at a later date. A hostess is needed for this event.
   

Tapestry Jewelry Workshop

January 24 & 25

We will have a workshop with Linda Weghorst. Learn to weave beautiful fashion accessories with simple tapestry and beading techniques. Pin loom weaving will be used to create elegant pins and neckpieces. Basic tapestry weaving and finishing techniques will be taught. Color and creativity will be encouraged as participants design and create complete handwoven items.
   

Sewing with Handwovens

Eva Cassel and Mary Jorgensen will teach tips and techniques for assembling hand-woven garments.
   

Weaver-controlled Lace

March 29 *(Not 4th Saturday) Saturday, 9:30 AM

Linda Weghorst will help weavers create with lace and add elegance to hand-woven cloth using weaver controlled Lace Weaves. Suitable for edges, accents and woven designs these versatile weaves enhance functional and decorative woven textiles. View sample of open weaves such as Leno, Brook’s Bouquet, Spanish Lace and Danish Medallion. In addition, free form lace designs will be demonstrated using pick-up methods on a four harness Huck Lace threading.

Fiber Feast

Summer is here. Time to celebrate with a picnic. Come down south for a Mississippi BBQ at Eva and Victoria’s new studio “ The Red Barnstormers’ Hangar.” Bring your favorite dish to share and enjoy a fun day among yarn, looms and airplanes.
   
Note: Meetings will be held at the St. John's United Methodist Church at the corner of Peabody and Bellevue in Memphis unless otherwise indicated. Members are encourages to bring current projects, weaving problems, new yarns, or ideas to share. Prior to every program there will be a brief business meeting.
